University Degree Programs 2024/25 Dataset- University of Jaén (UJA)

The University of Jaén (UJA) has released a comprehensive dataset providing detailed demographic information about students enrolled on active degree programmes for the 2024/25 academic year. The dataset includes information on the gender and age distribution of the university’s student population. For the referred academic year, the UJA offered 52 Bachelor’s, 55 Master’s and 21 PhD programmes. It should be noted that some of these were double programmes, which are longer plans that allow students to obtain two Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees upon completion.

During the 2024/25 academic year, 15,285 students were enrolled at the University of Jaén, with 12,039 studying for a Bachelor’s degree, 2,342 for a Master’s degree, and 904 for a PhD. The gender and age distribution was quite similar to the previous year. For example, 56.8% of students were female, and 43.2% were male. The majority of students (around 59.7%) were aged 21-39, while 35.6% were under 20, and 4.8% were aged 40 or over. The majority of the students (91.3%) attended the main campus in Jaén (Las Lagunillas), while 925 undergraduates studied engineering at the Linares campus and 406 undergraduates enrolled in Bachelor’s degrees in Preschool and Primary Education at the affiliated “Sagrada Familia” university centre in Úbeda.

In terms of gender balance, the Faculty of Social and Legal Sciences is the most balanced, with 1,491 female and 1,208 male undergraduates. Around 40-60% of students on degrees in Law, Business Administration, or Finance are female. Moreover, around 50-60 % of undergraduates studying Medicine, Physiotherapy, Chemistry, or Biology at UJA are women. Nevertheless, some bachelor’s degrees programmes have a bias towards the female students, such as Nursing (80 % female), Social Work (85 % female), or Preschool education (90% female). Conversely, engineering degrees tend to have predominantly male students, accounting for around 81% of students at the Polytechnic School of Jaén and approximately 75% at the Linares campus. The only degree with a majority of female students is Chemical Engineering in Linares (36 women and 27 men). Similar trends are observed at Master’s level, although overall, around 60% of Master’s students at UJA are female. PhD programmes generally have a more balanced gender distribution, with 48% of students being women.

Regarding age distribution, as stated previously, the majority of students were aged between 21 and 39. Students aged 40+ were present in most degree programmes, albeit in low numbers. However, they represented 9.2% of Master’s students and around 34% of PhD students.
