The dataset provides a comprehensive overview of the academic programs offered at the University of Tours for the 2023–2024 academic year.
With seven faculties, two University Institutes of Technology (IUT), an internal Polytechnic Engineering Institute (EPU), a Business Administration Institute (IAE) and a Center for Advanced Renaissance Studies, the university of Tours offers students the benefits of a multidisciplinary education.
The dataset includes 185 degree programs, enrolling a total of 25,079 students : 12,330 in 38 bachelor’s programs, 3,256 in 62 master’s programs, and 629 doctoral students across 49 disciplines. The two largest faculties, Arts and Humanities and Medicine, together account for more than one in three students at the university.
The student population in Tours is young, with 63% of students aged 20 or younger. It is also predominantly female, at 60%, a proportion higher than the national average of female students in higher education. The highest percentage of female students is found in the Faculty of Arts and Languages (75%) and the Faculty of Pharmacy (72%). In contrast, with only 17% and 23% female students, the engineering school of Tours, Polytech, and the University Institute of Blois remain male-dominated.
The actual number of students studying on-site at the University of Tours in 2023–2024 is slightly higher than reported in this dataset, as it does not account for students enrolled in continuing education programs leading to university diplomas (the university awards approximately 320 such diplomas in total), nor those in preparatory classes for competitive exams or registered as auditors.
