In numbers: 2023/2024 at the University of Ostrava

The University of Ostrava is taking a look back at the 2023/2024 academic year, using a dataset composed of information on student demographics across all the study programmes the University has to offer. Included in the dataset are statistics such as gender and age distribution of UO students, course of study types, as well as EQF and ISCED identifiers for individual programmes.

Looking at the dataset by faculties, the Faculty of Education has the highest number of enrolled students, with 2,772 in total. This is followed by the Faculty of Medicine, which has 1,985 students, and the Faculty of Arts, with 1,773

In terms of gender distribution, the Faculty of Science stands out as the most balanced, with 824 female students and 784 male students. By contrast, women make up the significant majority at the Faculty of Education, Faculty of Social Studies, and Faculty of Arts. The Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Arts and Music likewise have more female students enrolled in comparison with male ones, though the difference is less significant.

When it comes to the students’ age, the Faculty of Education hosts the most students aged 40 years or older (246). At the opposite end of the spectrum sits the Faculty of Arts and Music with its 15 students in the same age category. The Faculty of Education, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Science and Faculty of Arts are nearly tied for having the most students aged 20 years or younger with each faculty’s number falling into a range between 180-192. The Faculty of Social Studies, on the other hand, has the fewest students below the age of 20 (38).

Overall, the University of Ostrava offers a diverse selection of degree programmes. The Faculty of Arts stands out as the faculty with the highest number of unique programmes offered (53), with the Faculty of Science following closely behind (44). This total of 200+ degree programmes, with nearly 9,500 enrolled students divided among them, marks the University of Ostrava as a diverse institution with the ability to support a wide range of fields and research types.
